Application process

Application into Affiliate or Student non-certified grades is by completing a General Application Form (GAF).

Applications for Professional/Certified grades

Associate Member of the Business Continuity Institute (AMBCI*) – applicants for Associate Membership need at least one years experience** in business continuity management and to hold the BCI Certificate (CBCI) at the “Pass” or “Pass with Merit” level.

Specialist Member of the Business Continuity Institute (SBCI) – applicants for Specialist membership need at least 2 years full time experience in BCM or in a business continuity management related profession. They also need to hold the BCI Certificate (CBCI) at either “Pass” or “Pass with Merit” rate and, if successful, will need to provide further documentary evidence of their specialist skills and/or certification from another relevant specialist awarding body.

Applicants who apply for SBCI but fail in any of the above criteria may be offered AMBCI if appropriate.

Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) - applicants must be working business continuity practitioners with at least three* years full time experience in BCM. They need to hold the BCI Certificate (CBCI) at the higher “Pass with Merit” rate. All applicants for MBCI will continue to be scored assessed to ensure they have sufficient experience and understanding of the practical application of BCM.

Applicants who apply for MBCI but fail in any of the above criteria may be offered SBCI or AMBCI if appropriate.

Applicants to sit the BCI Certificate and who wish to progress to any of the above certified grades will need to supply the following:

Completed General Application Form containing contact details;
Declaration of Experience Form confirming the minimum level of practical experience as outlined above;
A comprehensive résumé/cv (curriculum vitae);
An indication of which grade they wish to be considered for;
2 referees;
A signed Code of Ethics;
Full payment for the examination
