Crisis Management Workshop, Thursday 24th January, London

Outline Programme

There are many aspects of crisis management that are essential to the role of the BCM professional and we plan that the Crisis Management SIG and workshops will provide valuable insight into the most critical of these areas. For this reason we will “begin at the beginning” in the BCI Crisis Management Workshop that is scheduled for 24th January. The programme will explore the subject of crisis management from two different perspectives. First, you will have the opportunity to engage in a debate that will equip you to articulate exactly why your organisation should be developing an effective crisis management capability. We have called this session “ Crisis Management: is it all about reputation?” But don’t be fooled … the answer may be “no”!

Then we will be taking a strictly practical view of crisis management by looking closely at what you need to put in place to meet the requirements of Section 8 of BS25999, which covers incident response and management. Through looking at examples of good practice we will work together to identify the techniques that will enable us to develop effective Incident Management Plans and the tools to evaluate our capabilities in this area. A key benefit of this session will be the opportunity for you to define and discuss those elements of crisis management that are of greatest importance to your organisation.

Outline Agenda

“Crisis Management: is it all about reputation?”

Three leading experts will expand upon the reasons why most leading organisations have developed and adopted formal approaches to the management of crisis situations … those occasions when normal operations are disrupted or the continuing well-being of the organisation is at risk. You will work with fellow BCM professionals to develop your own understanding of why an effective crisis management strategy is important for your organisation and how the case can be made to senior management.

“Crisis Management in Practice: incident response and management”

A number of case studies will be used to illustrate good practice with incident response and incident management and relate these to BS25999. The outputs from this session will be in the form of checklists, developed in discussion with fellow delegates, that will provide fresh ideas and improvements to your existing plans.

We shall also be electing the Advisory Panel for the Crisis Management Special Interest Group during the Workshop. Please email david.lloyd@thebci.org if you would be interested in standing for the panel.

Where is the Workshop being held ... and what time does it start?

The Mermaid Conference Centre at Puddle Dock in London is immediately adjacent to Blackfriars Station. You can download a map and details of the venue from

www.the-mermaid.co.uk/why_mermaid/location.php

The registration desk will open at 09:00 and the Workshop starts at 09:30. We will be aiming to finish at 16:30.

Who should attend?

The majority of delegates will be from organisations that recognize the value of a structured response to disruptive events, in particular those persons with responsibilities for BCM development that wish to fully understand the mechanisms by which their continuity plans will be invoked.

We will be limiting attendance to around sixty delegates to ensure the best opportunities for networking and effective group discussions.

How much does it cost to attend? How do I book?

BCI Members and employees of BCI Partners pay just £295 (+vat).

Non-members pay £395 ... and this includes 12 months BCI Affiliate Membership in order to provide access to the conference materials and the Crisis Management SIG discussion group on the BCI web-site after the Workshop ... and Member rates for attendance at future BCI Workshops.

What is the Crisis Management SIG?

The Crisis Management Special Interest Group (SIG) will be launched in January, after the Workshop, with the intention of providing an international forum where all BCI Members and Partners can exchange information, participate in electronic discussion of crisis management related issues and seek guidance from fellow BCM professionals. An Advisory Panel will assist in the effective running of the SIG with members elected at the Workshop. Details of the candidates will be available for review on the BCI web-site from early January.
