Fellows of the Business Continuity Institute are entitled to use the designation FBCI.
To become a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute, two routes are available:
- Potential Fellows of the BCI must have received two nominations from Statutory professionals of the BCI. (FBCI, MBCI, SBCI or AMBCI) Upon receipt of the nominations, potential Fellows will be contacted by the Secretariat to complete an Application Form.
Or
- Potential Fellows may apply directly to be considered by requesting an Application Form from the BCI Secretariat – membership@thebci.org
For either approach, the minimum requirement for consideration of FBCI status will be:
- Nominations for Fellow grade must have been a senior professional Member of the BCI (MBCI or SBCI) for a minimum of two years
- They must also have been working full time in the BCM industry for a minimum of 6 years
Application process
A Fellowship Assessment Panel of 10 Fellows, nominated by the BCI Membership Council will be formed. Sitting Assessment Panels of 5 will assess the following material:
- Nomination References
- Detailed CV from potential Fellow
- A document from the potential Fellow detailing Professional contribution to the BCI and the BCM industry
- Application Form from the potential Fellow
- Thought Leadership Papers
- Added material from potential Fellow supporting the Application Form
The decision of the panel will only be based on the evidence provided as a whole. It is important that all potential Fellows understand the requirement of providing full details of their practical and theoretical knowledge of the BCI competencies. As much evidence as possible should be supplied in order that a complete evaluation can be made by the Assessment Panel
Thought Leadership Papers
It is expected that the nominated potential Fellow has had as a minimum two papers published within a two year period prior to nomination. The papers should have been published in the Business Continuity Journal, on the BCI website, in Continuity magazine or other recognized industry related publications will also be considered. It is recognized that some nominated Fellows may not have had articles published in BCM industry magazines but that they have presented at recognized BC conferences or forums. The presentations given can be considered evidence provided that the slides are accompanied by the full presentation notes.
In the event of being unable to provide published papers, then the nominated person may submit a paper of a minimum of 3000 words on a subject of their choice but relevant to business continuity management. The paper must be of sufficiently high standard to be published in any related BC publication.
A comprehensive application/submission pack is available from the BCI Secretariat at membership@thebci.org
