Chetty Ekambarum Saminada MBCI

CHETTY Ekambarum Saminada is the founder and Managing Director of Life Continuity Ltd, which is a registered training institution with the Mauritius Qualification Authority. The main goal of the institution is to provide professional training for international certification in Good Practice and ISO standards.

Life Continuity is a Licensed Training Partner of the Business Continuity Institute of UK for delivering BCI Good Practice Guidelines and other BCI specialist skill training courses in Business Continuity Management.

The institution is also an Authorised Training Partner (ATP) of the Professional Evaluation Certification Board (PECB) of Canada for conducting professional ISO training, evaluation and certification of organisation, individuals and products in Mauritius.

Mr Chetty holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Surrey (UK) and is also a Registered Professional Engineer of Mauritius (RPEM 854) in the field of Electronics and Communications. He is an approved BCI Instructor, Consultant in Business Continuity Management and MQA registered Trainer.

His professional career started with Mauritius Telecom in 1986 until his recent early retirement in December 2015. With more than thirty years of practical experience in the Technical, Administrative, Business Continuity and Security sections of Mauritius Telecom, Mr Chetty has implemented Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) in all the essential and critical departmental functions of Mauritius Telecom, including its subsidiaries (Call Services, Teleservices and Telecomplus) as per BCI GPG and ISO 22301.

During his years of service in the Engineering and Management fields, Mr Chetty was responsible for the day to day operations of the Satellite Network, Optical Network, Microwave Radio Network, Telecom Tower Facilities Management and Business Continuity and Security of Mauritius Telecom. He developed an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the telecommunications networks, product and services as well as business continuity management for the telecommunication sector. Mr Chetty has followed several professional trainings and has acquired the required competencies to be internationally recognised as a consultant to implement Business Continuity Management System in any organisation.

His last project at Mauritius Telecom, namely the preparation of Mauritius Telecom Data Center for ISO 22301 certification, was adopted as a pilot project for the other entities of Orange Group France.

Mr Chetty is also an active operator in the Tourism sector: he is the Hotel Director of a small Hotel, owner and operator of his own Tourist Residences, Tour Operator, Travel Agent and Car Rental services. He is an approved consultant for the implementation of ECO Label MS 165 for Mauritius Tourism Authority.

His future interest as Director of BCI-SADC is to bring a general awareness on the importance of having a Country Continuity and Resilience Plan (CCRP) in order to face the continuity and resilience challenges in SADC and other countries of Africa for Continuity of Government (COG) and Continuity of Operations (COOP). He is exploring and working along with the other BCI SADC team members to explore on the different options of making Business Continuity Management an integral part of the strategic management of the SADC countries for Good Governance, Risk and Compliance. This can be achieved through the implementation of the Good Practice Guidelines of the Business Continuity Institute-(BCI-GPG) and the requirements of ISO 22301-Societal Security and Business Continuity Management Systems, ISO 31000 Risk Management and other ISO standards like ISO 27001, ISO 28000 for specific industries.

Clifford Ferguson DTH, PhD, BTH, NDipTech, AMBCI

Clifford Stanley Ferguson, male, born 1963. Cliff is married to Salome and blessed with three children and two grandchildren. He is currently Director of strategy and policy at the Government Pensions Administration Agency. Cliff matriculated in 1980, completed a trade as Radio / Radar Electonician in 1983, by 1985 and completed a second trade as an industrial instrument mechanician. In 1997 he was awarded a National Diploma in electronic engineering, in the same year he obtained a post graduate certificate in project management at the University of Pretoria. In 2001 he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in practical theology at UNISA and was ordained as pastor in 2003 at the Pentecostal Protestant Church. Late 2003 he was awarded a Ph.D. at the SRU for his thesis “The Church serving the ecumenical community through the use of information, communication technology and modern customer care principles”. In 2006 he completed a voice over internet protocol design certification at the AVAYA University in Great Britain. In 2010 he was awarded a post graduate certification as business and life coach at the University of Johannesburg, and in the same year he passed the international examination as business continuity practitioner at the BCI. As Chair of the SA BCI Forum, 2011 - 2013, Cliff was instrumental in the formation of the SADC BCi Chapter. in In 2014 he graduated as Doctor of Theology with his thesis: “Singing the Lord’s Song in a strange land: a practical theological investigation into the spiritual experiences of South African expatriates in Africa after 2000 A.D”. Also in 2014 he was awarded the BCi’s manager of the year award in the category – Public Service and was nominated for the BCi global award in the same category. In 2015 Cliff presented two BC papers and participated in three BC Conferences. He is actively involved in creating and establishing two Business Continuity Forums within the South African government. One, in the Finance Cluster where BC pilot projects are being orchestrated, and two, a National BC forum across three spectrums of government namely National, Provincial and Local. The latter is being driven through by the National Treasury and the Accountant General.

Brian Henry BSc CMC, FBCI, Certified ISO22301 Lead Auditor, Certified ISO22301 Lead Implementer

Brian has been involved in business and Information Technology since 1970, and practiced as a Management Consultant for over 30 years, providing support to management on a wide range of business systems issues. These include Security, Business Continuity, Risk and Impact Assessment, Contract Risk Management, Organisational Restructuring and Strategic Planning. Brian is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Australia. He is also a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute in London, and has practiced in the field of Business Continuity since 1986. He holds a B.Sc degree from the University of Cape town and Diploma in Business Management. Brian is Certified as a Lead Auditor and Lead Implementer for the ISO-22301 Standard and facilitates the PECB ISO-22301 training courses. He has lectured in in Knowledge Management at the Tshwane University of Technology, and also delivers the Caridon Academy training courses and workshops.

He is the founder of The Caridon Group, a company providing Business and Systems Consulting, with specialist skills in Governance, Compliance and Risk.

Sylvain Prefumo MBCI, BSC, MBA

Sylvain has great experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM), Disaster Recovery (DR), Crisis Management, Operational Risk Management and Information Security Management. He has a very good knowledge of Service Management, Quality Management and Project Management. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the banking sector.

Sylvain has implemented the concept of Business Continuity Management for the two biggest banks in Mauritius. He is a member of the Business Continuity Institute of UK and also a member of the subcommittee of the Mauritius Standard Bureau for the reviewing of International Standard. In 2013 Sylvain has been elected as the Vice Chairman and Director of the BCI African Chapter.

Pete Frielinghaus MBCI

Summary of Work Experience:

Pete is a director of the African Chapter of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI, an approved BCI and ISO 22301 Instructor and has been the area representative for Mauritius and surrounding areas since establishing their presence there a number of years ago. He was recently awarded the Business Continuity Consultant of the year at the Africa Chapter of BCI annual Awards held in Johannesburg in August and shortlisted for the Global Awards.

Pete gained a broad range of skills in training, retail telecommunications and IT during his career which started in the IT Industry in the early 80’s. As an entrepreneur he has been involved with several start-up ventures in the retail sector before joining a large South African Investment Bank where he was responsible for Integration, System Design, BCM and the general operations in their securities division. During this time he gained extensive experience on a wide variety of systems and processes in the banking industry including application development, implementation, database management, communications and business continuity planning.

In 2002 Pete focused specifically on business continuity management where he completed a wide variety of assignments both locally in SA as well as London and West Africa involving all aspects of the BCM Lifecycle. He was the founder and General Manager of an IT services start-up in Mauritius specialising in Business Continuity and off-site recovery

He has been a certified member of the Business Continuity Institute since 2004 and in 2013 was elected as a director of the inaugural African Chapter of the Business Continuity Institute.

Matt Winchester MBCI

I have spent forty years in various capacities in the IT Industry – mostly in Sales and Consulting.

I have been involved in the Business Continuity business with Global Continuity SA since 2001 – initially in Sales and latterly in Business Continuity Management Consulting.
