When do you want to find out that your business continuity plan doesn’t work?

  1. When the network goes down?
  2. When the building is on fire?
  3. When the lights go out?
  4. During an exercise?

When you’ve spent so long creating your business continuity plan and think you’ve got it absolutely right, the last thing you want to consider is that it may not be as perfect as you think. Perhaps some of your assumptions weren’t accurate; perhaps there are some possibilities you hadn’t considered; perhaps, just perhaps, in the event of an incident, things may not go to plan.

This is why we conduct exercises – to make sure that any flaws that exist in our business continuity plan can be ironed out so that when a real disruption occurs, things will run smoothly, or as smoothly as possible given the circumstances. This is why testing and exercising was chosen as the theme for Business Continuity Awareness Week.

To help you in promoting this theme, the Business Continuity Institute has created three posters that ask the question above and help demonstrate the importance of running business continuity exercises. These posters represent three possible incidents that could occur and disrupt your business – a computer network incident, a fire or a power failure – all of which feature highly in the BCI’s Horizon Scan as very real threats to organizations. Obviously there are many more.

The posters are free to download either as a PDF in various sizes or as a JPG. They are also available with or without the bleeds depending on whether you would like to print from your own computer or you would like to get them professionally printed. Click on the link below each of the posters below to download the version you would like.

The week may be over but the message remains extant, so do still use them throughout the year, or share the image versions online using social media.
