BCI NCR Forum – Knowledge Sharing Session, Gurgaon, 16/01/2017

A Knowledge SHARING Session of the BCI NCR Forum was organised at Unitech Cyber Park, Gurgaon on January 16, 2017 between 3:30pm – 6:30pm.

Daman welcomed all the delegates who were representing various companies, mainly, Fidelity, Genpact, Aon, Blackrock, HSBC, Barclays Bank, OGS, CORE, Colt, EY, SAIL and Cognizant. He explained to the delegates about the BCI working on a global level and its presence in India – active BCI India Chapter and Forums in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, and NCR. He also mentioned that the BCI is giving special emphasis on increasing the membership of BCI and is taking initiatives about this.

It was also mentioned that BCI organises the Global BCM Awareness Week every year - this year the dates being May 15-19 and the theme being Cyber Resilience.

Dhirendra Kumar from Barclays took charge and spoke about the threats and challenges for the BCM professional. He specifically mentioned about the Chennai floods which disrupted the working of the city as a whole and took almost 30 days to return to normal. It was also highlighted the inability or lack of preparedness to cope up with that kind of natural calamities. It was a highly interactive talk with audience asking questions, providing suggestions and sharing their own experiences. It was recorded that perhaps issues like demonitisation, Brexit could be discussed in the next meetings/ events. Some members mentioned about the Branding and Reputational issue linked to BCM and not otherwise. Some examples were cited as good practice and improvements during/ since the Chennai foods to take care of the families of staff members in case of a crisis.

Some members suggested to have a Whatsapp Group of the BCM members to raise the voice and through collective e-representation to the concerned bodies for addressing the problems being faced at a particular big location/city. Few of such groups already exist and the participants would be invited to one such active group in the NCR.

Lastly Daman took over and talked about ISO 22398 (Societal Security – Guidelines for Exercises). He then shared some details of various research reports published by the BCI. These included:

  • Salary Survey – Asia
  • Horizon Scan
  • Supply Chain Resilience
  • Work Place Recovery
  • Changing Face of BC Professional

Finally, a vote of thanks was proposed to the host and all the participants. The Forum plans to have one such event every quarter.
