Specialists of the Business Continuity Institute are entitled to use the post-nominal designation SBCI.

From April 2008 the previous discipline based Specialist Faculties have been replaced with 6 new skills based Faculties which reflect stages within the BCM Lifecycle:

  • Faculty of Policy and Management
  • Faculty of Analyst
  • Faculty of Strategic Services
  • Faculty of Response, Planning & Support
  • Faculty of Exercising & Auditing
  • Faculty of Education & Training

Applicants for SBCI are required to hold the BCI Certificate (CBCI) at “Pass” or “Pass with Merit”; have two years full time experience either as a specialist business continuity practitioner or in a related discipline; and hold professional membership of or certification, by a relevant professional body in an associated discipline

Applicants for Specialist who are not currently BCI members and have achieved the required success in the BCI Certificate (CBCI) need to complete a General Application Form (GAF) and a Specialist Application Form (SAF) Once these forms have been considered, applicants will be advised if they are considered to have the necessary experience and qualifications to be offered an SBCI and to which Faculty they have been elected.

In some cases applicants may be offered Associate Membership (AMBCI) and invited to reapply after 6 months when they have gained more experience.

Full information on how to register to sit for the BCI Certificate (CBCI) can be found at http://www.thebcicertificate.org/index.html

A Candidate Information Bulletin which contains comprehensive information on the BCI Certificate, how to prepare for it and what to expect can be found at: http://www.thebcicertificate.org/bci_cip.html
