Supply Chain Workshop: BCM for the Supply Chain

Wednesday 10th March, Birmingham

BS25999:1 states that “... an organisation should assure itself that its key suppliers or outsource partners have effective BCM arrangements in place.”

Are you one of the growing number of BCM practitioners now faced with the vital task of extending your organisation’s continuity plan to embrace the product and service providers within your supply chain?
What steps have you taken to identify the critical suppliers; and how do you intend to ensure that your expectations in respect of continuity of supply are integral to the working relationship with each of these third-party organisations?

Purpose
“Supply Chain Continuity” continues to be one of the most requested topics for the BCI Workshops. Accordingly, the purpose of this workshop, is not only to explore the complexities of working with third-party suppliers but also to develop practical guidance that meets the needs of BC practitioners and the organisations by which they are employed. Our goal is to ensure that you have the opportunity to learn from the experience of the expert panel of presenters and work with fellow delegates to share solutions to the issues identified in the course of the group discussions.

Content
The Workshop is in two parts. The morning session will focus on understanding the procurement process and the challenges that arise from the various supplier relationships that are typical of every organisation. We will look at the requirements of BS25999 and other standards that may be relevant to the ways in which supply-chain continuity strategies might be framed. We are delighted to welcome a senior representative of the CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply) to assist in leading this first session, hence opening the Workshop where all good BC planning should begin ... with the needs of the business.

The afternoon will be devoted to equipping each delegate with information and ideas that will support them in developing their own model for a supply-chain continuity strategy. By analysis of a number of case studies, from different sectors, we will identify the key requirements for each element of the development and delivery cycle, including the continuing need for surveillance of supplier performance and well-being.

Contributors

  • Nick Wildgoose - Board Member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) and Supply Chain Product Manager, Zurich Global
  • Colin Ive - until recently Chief Risk & Continuity Manager, Nokia and now an independent consultant
  • Chris Green – Head of Group Sourcing and Group Operations BCM, HBOS plc
  • Alan Hodgson - specialist advisor to the Retailers BC Association and Managing Director, Continuous Solutions Ltd.
  • Mondy Holliday - Business Continuity Manager, Leicestershire County Council

Who Should Attend
How important are third-party suppliers to the continuity of operations for your organisation? If the answer is “significant”, or above, then you will want to ensure that you or a colleague makes the time to participate in this Supply Chain Workshop. It is hard to imagine an organisation where failures within the supply-chain do not represent a significant threat to performance.

For those BC practitioners that have already established a good working relationship with their opposite number in procurement, purchasing or supplier management then why not both attend and use the Workshop as a vehicle to draw out common issues and return to the office with fresh ideas and approaches to consider.

Even if the development of third-party supplier BC strategies is not a priority today, we predict that you will soon be facing this challenge and the Workshop will ensure that you are at least one step ahead of the boss! (And for those Members now participating in the CPD scheme it represents an important opportunity to broaden their understanding of BCM as a business discipline.)
