The BCI Australasia Chapter was thrilled to be returning to Sydney, Australia for the 13th BCI Australasia Summit, bringing together Business Continuity and Resilience professionals from the Asia Pacific region.

We were delighted to seeing you on 30-31 July, 2019, for your exclusive chance to spend two days with top business experts. The Summit is your opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge you need to feel confident that your organisation, big or small, is resilient and prepared to handle business disruptions.

The BCI Australasian Awards Dinner was integrated into the Summit recognising the outstanding contributions of Business Continuity and Resilience professionals and organisations living and operating within Australasia.

The Westin Sydney was the venue for this year’s Summit and Awards; a great location in the heart of the city and surrounded by Sydney's most beautiful heritage buildings, minutes away from the Opera House and Harbour.

News

In 2019, the theme of the BCI Australasia Summit was “Building the bridge to a resilient future”. We ensured delegates were equipped for today’s disruption and tomorrow’s threats and will focus on diversity and threats to resilience. To achieve this, the summit ran two streams in parallel:

Stream 1: Increasing diversity, building resilience

This stream:

•    Focused on practical advice and key technical aspects of moving from business continuity to resilience.
•    Reflected on the different ways that diversity can be thought of and will help develop skills and methodologies that may be implemented immediately.
•    Will be interspersed with elements of how innovation, leadership and implementing an incident exercising methodology can be used in transforming from Continuity to Resilience.
•    Included what opportunities there are to apply diversity to not only build but also meet the future challenges to ensure continued resilience.

Presentations in this stream include case studies that link to elements in the BCI's Good Practice Guidelines pertinent to achieving Diversity in Resilience.

Speakers illustrated experiences and lessons learnt as they took delegates through one or more of the key stages of the BCM Lifecycle as it applies in this space.

Stream 2: Threats to resilience

This stream focused on shared experiences, case studies and reviewing current, emerging or potential future threats to resilience. It considered the challenges facing the modern business continuity resilience professional.

Presentations in this stream include case studies that link to elements in the BCI's Good Practice guidelines pertinent to Threats to resilience.

Speakers illustrated experiences, lessons learnt and any pre-mortems undertaken as they take delegates through one or more of the key stages of BCM Lifecycle element, focusing on practical outcomes.

The stream interspersed elements of threats to business continuity, how they will or will not affect resilience approaches for tomorrow. The list of threats includes but is not limited to:

•    Cyber/Data breech
•    Unplanned IT / Communication outages
•    Adverse Weather
•    Interruption to Utilities
•    Supply chain disruptions
•    Availability of talent or key skills
•    New Laws or Regulation
•    Security incident

The BCI Summit Australasia is the premier event in the Australasian region, bringing together professionals looking for inspiration and new ways to tackle the challenges of their roles. Along with the annual Awards this summit again delivered a must-attend event.
