New Zealand Red Cross has many years’ experience of supporting people after emergencies. COVID-19 presents us with a new and challenging context. Angela discusses how we can take what we have learned from previous disasters to support communities recovering from the ‘mass disruption’ brought by COVID-19.

Angela Sutherland is General Manager Disaster Risk Management at New Zealand Red Cross. In this role she sits on the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the organisation’s work supporting communities in disaster readiness and resilience, response and recovery. She’s worked in disaster management for the past thirteen years in both Australia and New Zealand, and particularly enjoys working with volunteers and encouraging the community connection that we know will strengthen all of our abilities to cope with the impacts of disasters.
