Australia’s National Broadband Network (nbn) underpins the country’s digital connectivity across a vast and geographically complex environment. As a critical national infrastructure provider operating across fibre, copper, wireless, and satellite technologies, maintaining an effective crisis management capability is essential.

Until 2024, nbn supported its crisis readiness through training, exercises, and real-world incident responses. However, while these activities were broadly successful, there was limited objective measurement of capability maturity.

This webinar shares the story of nbn’s nearly two-year journey to reassess and strengthen its crisis management capability. By aligning practices with contemporary standards and introducing structured measurement, the organisation moved from a traditional model to a more agile, evidence-based approach designed to respond to increasingly fast-moving and complex disruptions.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will learn how to:

  1. Assess crisis management capability using structured maturity models and measurable criteria.
  2. Design capability maps that define current and target states for crisis management functions.
  3. Build flexible team structures that adapt to the scale and nature of different crisis events.
  4. Embed continuous improvement through structured training, testing, exercising, and debrief cycles.

Practical Takeaways

  • A 20-attribute Crisis Management Capability Map used to guide maturity progression across a five-level scale
  • Insights into redesigning crisis team structures to improve speed, adaptability, and operational depth
  • A six-monthly Train–Test–Exercise–Debrief cycle to strengthen organisational readiness
  • A central, event-agnostic crisis management process supported by concise operational guidance

We look forward to welcoming you!
