Each year, the BCI recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to both the BCI and the business continuity and resilience industry. The winners will be announced and celebrated at the annual Global Awards Ceremony, which takes place as part of BCI World Hybrid.

Submission criteria

To ensure the continued success and relevancy of these prestigious awards, the following submission criteria and application rules are being utilised for all Honorary Award applications

  • We accept nominations from certified BCI Members (AMBCI or higher) only.
  • We do not accept self-nominations.
  • A nominator can only nominate one person per year.
  • A person cannot be nominated in more than one category per year.
  • BCI award judges cannot submit a nomination.

How to apply

Once entries open each year, there will be a link to submit a nomination for each category on this page.

  • Select the appropriate category for your nomination.
  • Follow the submission link to open the application form for that category.
  • Complete the form by providing full contact information and submitting evidence against each criterion.
  • Agree to and date the applicant declaration and submit the form.

BCI Achievement Award

This award is open to members and non-members. Applicants must provide evidence that the nominee demonstrates the following:

  • Has made a number of outstanding, quality contributions to the business continuity industry.
  • Is a significant contributor to the Business Continuity Institute.
  • Has given long service to the institute or relevant industry.
  • Two references must be provided, each relating to a different contribution (one can be from the nominator/applicant if relevant).

Honorary MBCI

Applicants must provide evidence that the nominee demonstrates the following:

  • Is a current BCI member holding MBCI membership and has been active with the BCI for at least seven years.
  • Clear, significant and continuous contributions to the business continuity industry over a period of at least ten years.
  • High levels of community engagement within the BCI, meeting a least three of the Community Contribution Areas – see below.
  • At least three references must be provided pertaining to each contribution area (one reference can be from the nominator/applicant if relevant).

Applicants must provide evidence that the nominee demonstrates the following:

  • Is a current BCI member holding FBCI membership and has been active with the BCI for at least ten years.
  • Clear, significant and continuous contributions to the business continuity industry over a period of at least 15 years.
  • High levels of community engagement within the BCI, meeting a least three of the Community Contribution Areas – see below.
  • At least three references must be provided pertaining to each contribution area (one reference can be from the nominator/applicant).

​​​​​​​BCI Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognises a BCI member who has made significant, long-lasting contributions to the business continuity and resilience profession. It honours a distinguished career dedicated to advancing the industry, improving organisational resilience, and outstanding service to the institute.

Applicants must provide evidence that showcases that the nominee has demonstrated beyond exemplary contribution to the BCI and unquestionable long-time service.

Two references must be provided (one reference can be from the nominator/applicant).

Community Contribution Areas

  1. Carried out pro bono work related to Business Continuity or Organizational Resilience for a community or not-for-profit organization.
  2. Presented on the Business Continuity or Organizational Resilience discipline or career with a recognised education institute such as a school, college, or university.
  3. Mentored people through the BCI mentoring programme or through an alternative verifiable mentoring process.
  4. Published multiple articles on business continuity and or organizational resilience subjects in recognized publications or via social media, e.g. magazines, Disaster Recovery Journal, Continuity Insights, BCI website, LinkedIn, Podcasts, blogs etc.
  5. Have supported key BCI Thought Leadership programmes, e.g., Examination development, GPG updates, BCI Course development, BCAW+R (e.g. webinars), 2020 / Future Practice Groups, etc.
  6. Have significantly supported the development of the industry or Institute outside of BCI-led activities, e.g. supporting the development of key industry standards, raising awareness through promotional events and activities, driving membership growth or contributing to an industry working party, e.g. DRJ EAB, ISO Technical Committee, DRII committee, ACP board, etc.
  7. Member of BCI Conference Organizing Committee or Stream Leader. Presenter at BC or Organizational Resilience-themed Conference / Event, e.g. BCI World Conference, BCI Regional Conferences, DRJ, CI, etc.
  8. Served as a BCI Membership Auditor, BCI Membership Assessor, or BCI Awards Judge.
  9. Contributed to the active management or Governance of the BCI, such as in one or more of these roles: BCI Main Board member; Chair or Committee member of a BCI Chapter or SIG, 2020 / Future Practice Group Leader, BCI Conference Organizing Group Leader. Other examples can be provided.
