BCI Honorary Awards Application and Judging Guide
The awards application is designed to be inclusive, transparent, and easy to follow. The information provided below will assist you in understanding the criteria for the application, the judging process, and the rules.
Submission criteria
For these prestigious awards, we accept nominations from certified BCI members (AMBCI or higher) only – we do not accept self-nominations.
- A nominator can only nominate one person per year
- A person cannot be nominated in more than one category per year
- BCI award judges cannot submit a nomination
Application rules
We want to emphasize that the awards process has specific rules in place, and it's important to follow them. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the disqualification of your application. We encourage all applicants to carefully review the rules to ensure they are eligible to apply and that their nomination is complete and meets the necessary requirements.
- All applications should be submitted in English. We understand that not everyone may be proficient in English, so we recommend seeking assistance from a colleague or friend who can assist with translation, or using online translation tools to help with the process.
- Applicants must provide evidence in each chosen category criterion.
- Each criterion and testimonial has a maximum word count limit that must be adhered to. Any words beyond this limit will not be considered.
- To ensure fairness in the judging process, the criteria used for evaluation will be based solely on the quality of the evidence submitted. Any additional documents beyond the requested evidence will not be taken into consideration.
- Hyperlinks to evidence are not permitted. Please include all evidence directly within the application.
- Applications received after the advertised deadline will not be considered.
- Applications that contain defamatory statements will not be considered.
- To maintain fairness and impartiality during the awards assessment period, applicants and organizations are not permitted to contact the awards judges.
- For the awards application to be considered, the applicant declaration included on the entry form must be agreed and dated.
The information you submit will be used by the BCI to judge your submission. It will be passed to our volunteer BCI member judges for this purpose.

Judging Guidance
Please find more information below about the judging process and the judges’ role. Our aim is to create a clear and inclusive environment where all participants understand how the awards are judged and what is expected from the judges.
Judging process
Stage 1: BCI Central Office initial screening
- Your nomination will be received and vetted by the BCI Central Office to confirm it meets the submission criteria.
- An application will not be considered if it breaches any of the application rules.
- If accepted, your entry will be sent to our Judging Panel for evaluation.
- Any nominations that have not been accepted will be notified within 4 weeks of the application deadline.
Stage 2: Judging panel evaluation
- For the BCI Achievement Award, Honorary MBCI and Honorary FBCI, the Judging panel will review and score all accepted applications.
- For the BCI Lifetime Achievement Award, the Judging panel will review all accepted applications.
- Applications that meet the minimum score will progress to the next stage along with all accepted BCI Lifetime Achievement Award applications.
Stage 3: Judging panel discussion
- An open online discussion takes place between the Judging panel and Head Judge.
- The panel votes and confirms the winners, taking into consideration any limits on the numbers per year.
- Once judging has commenced, all nominations will be notified of the outcome.

The BCI Honorary Award winners will be announced at the Global Awards Ceremony, which takes place as part of BCI World Hybrid.
Judges Responsibilities
The judging panel is made up of FBCI and Hon FBCI Award Judges.
- If a judge identifies false, misleading, or defamatory statements in an application, they must promptly notify the BCI Central Office in writing and provide details of their findings.
- Judges are only allowed to score applications based on the given evidence and cannot conduct any additional research.
- Judges must maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
- Judges should make every effort to attend the Global awards ceremony as it is an important opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the award winners.
Judges evaluation
To evaluate applicants' evidence-based submissions, the judges will use three performance descriptors as outlined below for scoring the relevant categories.
High-quality evidence: Score between 4-5
- Applicant’s evidence is timebound, addresses the criterion and is thoroughly explained.
Moderate quality evidence: Score between 2-3
- Applicant’s evidence is timebound, partly addresses the criterion and is somewhat explained.
Low-quality evidence: Score between 0-1
- Applicant’s evidence is not dated, does not address the criterion, or is poorly explained.
Judges will consider factors such as sustained commitment, active participation and contributions, demonstrated impact, and the level of detail in the response.

Successful applications
Once the judging process is complete, applicants will be notified if their nomination has been successful.
The winners will be announced and celebrated at the Global Awards Ceremony which takes place in London as part of BCI World Hybrid. We will ask you to provide some comments about the winner that can be incorporated into the script for the awards ceremony.
