Practice makes perfect, so scenario-based crisis exercises are the cornerstone of good preparedness and skills enhancement. But they must be fit for purpose and well planned. In our 30+ years of supporting clients’ scenario planning and exercises, we often encounter confusion as to the type and format of crisis exercises that should be selected (Desktop/simulation/drills, etc.) to address participants' level of experience and achieve optimum results. Common needs and challenges to assess the most suitable approach include:
Clarifying scenario planning and exercise objectives:
- Are you testing existing crisis preparedness or training to take the team's skill-set and strategic reflexes to the next level?
- Who needs training - have you identified individuals (and back-ups) for each required function, and can this flex according the real-life situation?
- What are the required outcomes you want to achieve?
What participants would learn in our session:
- CS&A has created a ladder of formats from online training, through desktop-based exercises, to simulations and live drills. Each level is designed to match the skill/experience level of the participants. We can explain the six levels of scenarios every BCI manager needs to know.
- How do you avoid common mistakes in setting up and running a scenario planning/testing/training session?
- What examples can you leverage to compare your own organisation's crisis resilience to best practice benchmarks?
We look forward to welcoming you!
