Learning from the 2011 London Riots: Preparing Organisations for Civil Unrest.

Fifteen years on, the lessons remain relevant. Localised unrest quickly spread across London and other UK cities, disrupting retailers, transport, communities, businesses and emergency services. With rising societal tensions, rapid information sharing, public protest and heightened scrutiny, resilience professionals must assess how prepared their organisations are to protect people, assets and critical services during disruption.

Join the BCI London Chapter for an evening of discussion and networking on lessons from the 2011 riots and how to strengthen preparedness today. Speakers from business continuity, policing, resilience and insurance will share insights on disruption, response and organisational readiness.

Topics include:

  • What happened in 2011 and the impact on businesses, communities and public services
  • Challenges for retailers and customer-facing organisations during disorder
  • Protecting employees, customers, premises and critical assets
  • Business continuity, crisis management and working with external partners
  • Communications and decision-making in fast-moving situations
  • Lessons from past incidents and their relevance today
  • Practical steps to improve preparedness for civil unrest and disruption

Key takeaways:

  • Hear insights from practitioners in policing, resilience, crisis management and insurance
  • Understand the key lessons from the 2011 London Riots and why they remain relevant today
  • Learn practical approaches to preparing for, responding to and recovering from disruptive events
  • Identify actions that can strengthen organisational resilience and crisis response capabilities
  • Take away ideas and good practice that can be applied within their own organisation

Who Should Attend?

This event will be of interest to professionals working in business continuity, operational resilience, crisis management, security, risk management, emergency planning, facilities, retail operations and corporate affairs, as well as anyone with responsibility for organisational preparedness and response.

Following the discussion, Conducttr will facilitate a live simulation, and delegates will have the opportunity to network with fellow resilience professionals, exchange experiences, discuss common challenges and build valuable connections across the business continuity and resilience community.

Whether you are looking to validate existing plans or seeking practical insights to enhance your organisation's readiness, this session offers a unique opportunity to learn from those who have experienced the realities of civil unrest and understand how the lessons of 2011 can help organisations prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.
