From BCM Practitioner to Resilience Leader: What Strategic Business Continuity Leadership Looks Like in Practice
Business continuity leadership is evolving beyond maintaining plans, conducting BIAs and coordinating exercises. Senior practitioners are increasingly expected to influence strategic decisions, understand interconnected operational dependencies, challenge recovery assumptions and translate lessons from disruption into stronger organizational resilience.
Drawing on practical experience from a complex Pan-African banking environment, this webinar explores the journey from managing BCM activities to becoming a strategic resilience leader. It will examine how real incidents, exercises and operational challenges can reveal the difference between documented continuity capability and demonstrated resilience, and how these lessons can be used to strengthen preparedness and influence management decisions.

Dr. Zaituni Mmari is a Business Continuity, Operational Resilience and Information Security professional with extensive experience in the financial services sector. In her current role as Group Manager, Business Continuity Management at Ecobank, she supports business continuity and operational resilience across a complex Pan-African banking environment. Her work includes business impact analysis, continuity planning and exercising, crisis preparedness, operational resilience assessments, third-party resilience, and lessons learned from technology and infrastructure disruptions. She has also contributed to the BCI community through a published case study on hybrid threats, cyber risk, disinformation, and operational resilience in Pan-African banking. Her professional interests include translating BCM frameworks into practical resilience capabilities, strengthening leadership preparedness, and exploring the implications of AI and emerging technologies for cybersecurity, risk and organizational resilience. She also contributes to professional discussions on these topics through thought-leadership articles and industry engagement.
