What motivated you to become a BCI Corporate Sponsor?

At SES Secure, we work with organisations that increasingly rely on third-party software and SaaS platforms to deliver essential products, services, and day-to-day operations. While these technologies bring considerable benefits, they can also introduce critical dependencies that may not be fully recognised until something goes wrong.

Joining the BCI as a Corporate Sponsor provides an opportunity to contribute to wider conversations around business continuity and collaborate with resilience professionals who are focused on strengthening organisations against the realities of an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.

Can you share some of the values and goals of your organization?

SES Secure’s values are centred on trust, deep expertise, and service excellence. We understand that safeguarding business-critical software is about more than technology; it's about giving organisations confidence that they can continue operating even when the unexpected happens. Our goal is to help clients ensure business continuity while strengthening operational resilience through tailored, practical solutions that address their specific risks and requirements.

A key part of our approach is delivering a professional, friendly and highly responsive service at every stage of the customer journey. We pride ourselves on building long-term relationships, taking the time to understand our clients' needs, and providing expert guidance and support throughout our projects. The feedback we receive consistently highlights our team's extensive knowledge, responsiveness, and collaborative approach. These are qualities that continue to underpin everything we do.

How does your organization’s mission align with the BCI?

SES Secure and the BCI share a common goal: helping organisations build resilience and maintain continuity in the face of disruption. While the BCI promotes best practice, professional development, and resilience standards across the industry, SES Secure helps organisations put those principles into practice by safeguarding business-critical software, applications, and data through our tested and validated Software Escrow, SaaS Escrow, and SaaS Continuity solutions.

Our mission is to provide clients with the confidence that their critical technology assets remain protected and accessible when they are needed most. This aligns closely with the BCI’s focus on preparedness, risk mitigation, and resilience.

What do you hope to achieve through BCI Corporate Sponsorship?

Through BCI Corporate Sponsorship, SES Secure aims to contribute to the ongoing evolution of business continuity and operational resilience by sharing practical insights into managing technology dependency risks. As organisations become increasingly reliant on software and SaaS providers, we believe there is significant value in raising awareness of the measures that can help safeguard critical digital services and reduce disruption.

With more than 25 years of experience as a trusted leader in Software and SaaS Escrow, the SES Secure team looks forward to sharing its expertise and practical insights with the wider resilience community. Through meaningful engagement with professionals across industries, we hope to exchange knowledge, learn from diverse experiences, and contribute to helping organisations strengthen their ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disruption.

Additionally, as regulatory frameworks increasingly shift from policy-based compliance to evidence-based resilience, we also aim to share insights into the practical continuity measures organisations can implement to provide clear evidence of their ability to withstand and manage disruption events.

Can you share a success story that your company is particularly proud of?

One standout example, which we recently discussed on a podcast with long-standing client EDGE IT Systems, highlights how effective continuity planning enabled them to maintain their operations and mitigate risk in the face of a major unexpected disruption. EDGE IT Systems has been providing IT support to local councils and SMEs across the UK and Europe for more than 35 years. In 2023, the organisation was hit by a major ransomware attack that caused multiple critical servers to become unavailable, impacting service delivery for its entire customer base.

Faced with what was effectively a worst-case scenario, SES Secure worked closely with Chris Edge (CEO at EDGE IT) and the rest of the EDGE IT team to support the recovery process, helping to restore critical systems and minimise operational disruption. Crucially, the continuity plan that was activated had already been developed, tested and validated in advance. Rather than being a theoretical exercise, it provided real-world assurance during a major outage, enabling the organisation to respond quickly and confidently when it mattered most.

The incident served as a powerful reminder that SaaS applications and cloud-based services are not immune to disruption, despite the common misconception that Software Escrow and continuity planning are not relevant for them. Essentially, EDGE IT's proactive approach to business continuity and preparedness allowed them to activate a proven recovery strategy, mitigate risk and maintain continuity in the face of a serious cyber incident.

Our recent feature on the People of Performance Podcast explores this incident in detail. The episode provides first-hand insights fromChirs Edge and SES Secure’s Head of Escrow & Continuity, Mark Ryan.
