What will resilience look like in ten years? The BCI Future of Resilience Report 2026, produced in partnership with F24, asks 118 practitioners across 13 sectors to look a decade ahead, and finds a profession preparing to reinvent itself. Today, most see resilience through a defensive lens, as a risk mitigation function (59.1%), a regulatory necessity (53.2%) or a cost (41.7%). In ten years, 59.1% expect it to be recognised as a value creator and strategic enabler. Alongside this shift, 92% anticipate a dedicated C-suite resilience leadership role becoming standard, strategic leadership is ranked the most critical skill for the decade ahead (75.2%), and 88.3% believe AI-driven predictive analytics will have the greatest impact on the industry.

The report is equally candid about what stands in the way. Quantifying return on investment and linking resilience to strategy remain the biggest measurement gaps, regulatory pressure is expected to intensify (93.9%) and practitioners expect geopolitical and systemic risks, as illustrated by the 2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis, to define the risk landscape. Combining survey data, practitioner interviews and academic research, it covers roles, technology, ownership and metrics, skills and risk. Download the report to see how the profession views its own future, and where the work still lies.
