    Joshua de Maid

    Co-Founder & Senior First Officer , Bolst

    Joshua is one of the Co-Founders of Bolst, a tech start-up in the business resilience space. He holds a degree in risk management, with hands-on experience in risk and resilience from both the insurance and aviation sectors. Joshua has been an airline pilot for 10 years, flying both shorthaul and longhaul routes. In this role, he has led teams through high-stake decisions and real-world risk management exercises, developing a deep understanding of operational resilience in complex and dynamic environments. He has also worked as a pilot recruiter and in training roles specialising in threat and error management and human factors.

    During the pandemic, Joshua ran a training consultancy working with underwriting teams to embed resilience into their operational processes and develop a risk-aware mindset to drive resilience-focused cultures. His approach aligns with emerging industry insights that highlight the critical role of people and process resilience alongside technology.

    Joshua's experiences, alongside his founding team, now form the foundation for Bolst's fresh approach to business resilience.
