With the old year coming to a close and the new year looming on the immediate horizon, we would like to share with you just some of the work we’ve been doing for the members of the BCI and the wider business continuity and resilience community over the last twelve months. This is by no means an exhaustive list but hopefully gives you an insight into the many initiatives and areas that have occupied the team here at Central Office.

Thought Leadership

  • 18,585 research reports were downloaded from 138 countries.
  • 1,933 member-only regional reports were downloaded since regional content was launched for all reports in September 2023.
  • The BCI Supply Chain Resilience Report 2023 was the top downloaded report for 2023.
  • 97 interviews were conducted for research reports.
  • 86 articles written.
  • 32 live report launches.
  • 46 panelists featured in live report launches.
  • 8 podcasts produced.
  • 19 academic research papers published in Continuity and Resilience Review, our academic journal available to all certified members.
  • 6 white papers were written.
  • 3 academic research papers were funded.
  • 1 seasonal omnibus annual produced A Year in the World of Resilience 2023.

Membership

  • Over 2000 Credly Credentials were issued this year.
  • Revitalized chapters and member communities and an excellent 2 day Chapter Leaders event.
  • Launched a Portugal chapter.
  • 7 sectoral conferences in 5 countries supported.
  • 75 Chapter and SIG meetings attended in the year.
  • Enhanced member participation through volunteering opportunities.

  • Relaunched BCI Mentoring with plans to continue building the program.

  • CBCI 7.0 Exam developed and ready to launch  1st January 2024.
  • New CBCI Exam Platform for CBCI 7.0 – for improved candidate experience and robust testing launching on 1st January 2024 .
  • Expansion of LTP network in Asia – 2 new training partners - in Singapore and Japan.

Events

  • Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) BCAW 2023 was one of the most successful campaigns to date. In 2023 it focused on various aspects of resilience throughout the week including Supply Chain Resilience and Personal Resilience. BCAW 2023 was well received by BCI members and the wider resilience community, with individuals and organizations across the globe taking part in running their campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness of the discipline, including other institutes within the industry.
  • 54 Chapter events and 4 Special Interest Group events supported by the team.
  • Development of BCAW+R to launch in 2024. The new week will incorporate the BCI’s increasing shift towards resilience – hence Business Continuity and Resilience Awareness Week (BCAW+R) - and will occur between 13 – 17 May 2024. Put the date in your plans now.
  • BCI World Hybrid 2023 was a huge success with over 1,000 professionals attending physically in London or virtually. It was also a first for the BCI. We had never run a fully hybrid conference before that saw all keynote sessions and most breakout sessions live-streamed. The professionalism of the live streaming was impressive to watch with the multiple camera angles and speaker captions. The event also saw the BCI return to its first 2-day event post-pandemic, and it was well received by all that attended, including all the exhibitors. Having a 2-day event allowed us to increase the valuable networking opportunities as well. Networking drinks on the evening before BCI World Hybrid saw the launch of the Good Practice Guidelines (GPG) Edition 7.0, and we also re-introduced the BCI Global Awards dinner, which was also live-streamed for all to see. It was great to see so many new faces at the event and participation from over all over the world with delegates from over 50 different countries attending. We are already in the planning stages for a bigger and better BCI World Hybrid in 2024.

The team at Central Office look forward to another year of service to our members – wherever in the world you might be and wish you all a Happy New Year.
