Day three of BCAW+R focused on the growing role of AI within supply chain management and cybersecurity. Aligned with this year's theme of empowering resilience with AI, the sessions sparked thoughtful discussions around the opportunities and challenges AI introduces in these critical areas.

Participants explored how AI is enabling organizations to better monitor supply chain dynamics, anticipate disruptions, and support timely decision-making. In the cybersecurity space, discussions addressed the use of AI in detecting threats, identifying patterns, and automating response protocols, while also raising important considerations around data quality, system biases, and human oversight. Rather than presenting AI as a comprehensive solution, the sessions offered a balanced view, framing it as a powerful enabler that, when combined with human oversight, can strengthen and enhance existing resilience strategies, while also acknowledging the challenges and risks involved.

Session Highlights

The day began with an insightful webinar exploring how AI can be used to model supply chain risk, featuring in-depth discussions on the benefits of AI-driven risk modeling, predictive analysis, real-time monitoring, and how these strategic applications can enhance resilience. This was followed by a thought-provoking and practical webinar exploring the use of AI in state-backed cyber threats to attack critical infrastructure and the wider supply chain, and what best practices can boost resilience to such threats.

Completing the morning sessions was an informal discussion that brought together industry experts to delve into the question of whether AI can build an environment that is safe, secure and intelligent. Among other pertinent topics, panelists discussed ways in which AI could be used to help understand impacts and outcomes on the environment, using AI to support food security, and a thought-provoking discussion around the idea that just because AI is here, do we need to use it?

To kick off the afternoon, participants engaged with a presentation on risks posed to communication channels by organizations failing to protect systems against modern AI-enhanced cyber-attacks, and how, without a way to communicate in a crisis, organizations' plans are rendered ineffective.

To conclude the day, an informative webinar explored practical strategies for maintaining and strengthening business continuity during service provider disruptions and highlighted how AI can enhance due diligence by identifying cyber and operational risks early on before they become problems.
